Switching from Zen Planner?

ClassIQ vs Zen Planner

Zen Planner was built by a martial-arts school owner in 2006 and still ships belt tracking, testing events, and payroll in its core plan. Twenty years on, it's a private-equity portfolio product: member-count tiers, a $249/mo Engage suite for texting and CRM, a $99/mo website, processing locked to their in-house stack with unpublished rates, and a cancellation that requires a rep's approval. ClassIQ covers the modern equivalent of the whole bundle at one flat price, on a Stripe account you own, with a member experience that isn't waiting on next year's app.

Why owners move from Zen Planner.

The bundle is the real price

Studio is $99–$289 by member count — then texting and CRM need Engage at $249/mo, and the website is another $99. Their own Ultimate bundle runs $348–$538/mo. ClassIQ's flat price includes campaigns, journeys, two-way messaging, and the hosted portal.

Unpublished processing, locked in

Processing runs on their in-house stack, rates are quoted per gym rather than published, and you can't bring your own account. ClassIQ is your own Stripe account at Stripe's published rate, with 0% added — the number is on stripe.com, not in a sales call.

A member experience from another era

Their own January 2026 update says the unified member app is still "coming in 2026," and the waiver gate can be overridden at check-in. ClassIQ's portal is modern, installable, self-service — and unsigned waivers actually block the door.

Fair is fair

Where Zen Planner genuinely wins.

SugarWOD

Workout tracking with a real community layer for functional-fitness gyms. ClassIQ has no workout tracking at all — if the whiteboard matters to your floor, this is a genuine gap.

Payroll in core

Session, commission, and hourly pay rates with a time clock, at every tier. ClassIQ exports CSVs for your payroll provider instead.

A managed billing-recovery team

Their Revenue Recovery service puts humans on your failed payments (they claim ~69% recovery). ClassIQ automates retries and flags, but nobody at ClassIQ phones your members.

If those are the features your studio runs on, Zen Planner may be the right tool — and this page should make that easy to see.

The math nobody prints

Three subscriptions wearing one logo.

Zen Planner Studio at $99–$289, Engage at $249, the website at $99 — their own bundles land at $348–$538 a month before processing, on rates they don't publish. ClassIQ is $99 flat with campaigns, journeys, two-way messaging, and a published-rate Stripe account you own. The comparison isn't close on structure; whether it's close on fit, the table will tell you.

Switching is our job, not yours.

Done-for-you migration

Export your members from Zen Planner (or hand us the spreadsheet) and we import them — mapped, previewed, and verified before anything goes live. Included, not an add-on.

Your Stripe account, not ours

Payments run on a Stripe account you own. Saved cards and payment history stay yours — including if you ever leave ClassIQ.

No contract holding the door

Month-to-month, no setup fee, CSV export any time. If ClassIQ stops earning its keep, leaving is a download — the same standard we'd hold Zen Planner to.

Common questions.

How hard is it to leave Zen Planner?
Harder than it should be: cancellation goes through a form and a rep, takes effect at the end of the billing period without proration, and your database is deleted after the final cycle — so export everything first. Card data export is stated to be free. We run the import on our side and help sequence the switch so autopays don't skip a beat.
Zen Planner has belt testing — does ClassIQ?
Yes, and this one is a real comparison rather than a knockout. Zen Planner ships belt & skill tracking, testing events with fees, and shared curriculum videos in core. ClassIQ has progression tracks with attendance-driven eligibility, recorded assessments, cohort rosters for test day, and paid gradings via public tickets. Their curriculum videos have no ClassIQ equivalent; our cohort operations and ticketed public gradings have none in theirs.
What replaces Engage if we switch?
The prospect pipeline, email campaigns, automated journeys, and two-way member messaging are all included in ClassIQ's flat price. The honest caveat: ClassIQ is email-first — transactional SMS is an add-on and SMS marketing blasts are on the roadmap, so if high-volume texting is the core of your outreach, weigh that.
Do you have anything like SugarWOD?
No. ClassIQ deliberately runs the business side — schedule, money, members, front door — and leaves workout programming to specialist tools. If SugarWOD is load-bearing for your community, factor in keeping it (or an equivalent) alongside.
